From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.
Fans can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
