The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and emotional bonds that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
