19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.

Success also means the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He saved four early chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
